for monday, october 21st, 2013. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, president obama knows the federal health care website need as doctor. later today the president is expected to talk about the botched rollout of his botched health care legislation. the president is said to be very upset with the widespread problems on the insurance exchange website. last night the administration announced some major changes. susan mcginnis is in washington. susan, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. look for the president to look for the changes. you can expect him to focus on the benefits of the health care act while he acknowledges those problems but there's one key piece of information you may not want to wait for. president obama is expected to call problems with the government's affordable care act website inexcusable. >> the huge outpouring of interest shows how important it is that we get this right.

there's no one more frustrated than the president at the difficulty in the website. >> republicans call it a fiasco. >> send air force one out to silicon valley, load it up with some smart people and bring them back to fix this problem. it's riddiiculouridiculous. they're writing new code to fix some of the glitches and they're expanding capacity to meade demand. more than 19 million people have visited the website since the launch october 1st. >> the number one worry before we started is are people going to be interested, will people sign up. the answer to that is overwhelmingly yes. >> but opponents say who signs up is just as important as how many sign up. >> the fact is the sick people are signing up, the healthy aren't. and they're not going to because the deductibles are so high and the cost is so high. >> half a million people filled tout applications but won't say

how many of them were able to enroll. now, the white house is expected to come out with those enrollment numbers not until mid-november. also there's a hearing this thursday. gop has called for a sub house committee hearing into the problems and that's happening this thursday. also health and human services kathleen sebelius is being called on to resign by some gop lawmakers. >> thank you, susan. new jersey is the 14th state to recognize same-sex marriages. the state supreme court ruled friday new jersey towns should be accepting applications from same-sex couples. marlie hall is at city hall. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. here in new jersey same-sex marriage became legal and gay and lesbian couples came out in

newark at midnight to be among the first to tie the knot under the new law. joseph and orville waited 15 years to exchange their vows. newly elected senator cory booker married the couple. they ruled last month they can allow gay and lesbian couples starting today, making itmarria. the state supreme court rejected the request and will hear christie's case in japan but in the meantime they celebrated at city hall. >> elation, joy. i would say extraordinary joy from my perspective because it's not about me or joseph from my perspective but what about what

we represent to young people. >> reporter: now, before joseph and orville exchanged their vows, mayor booker asked if there was anyone who objected to their union. one protester shouted that it was u lawful in the eyes of god and jesus, well, that protester was escorted out by authorities. anne-marie. >> i'm sure it fwiengs be very busy there all day long, marlie. thank you very much. well, police have lots of questions for those two convicted kill whoers used forged documents to escape from a florida prison. joseph jenkins and charles walker were cap turn at a beach in florida. police believe they may have paid thousands for the documents that allowed them to whack out of prison p. police want to know who helped them to get the papers and who they were waiting for at the motel. more arrests are expected. and this morning hurricane

raymond is gaining strengthet. it's located 165 miles southwest of acapulco. it's sustained winds of 110 miles an hour with higher gusts. it's remained offshore but if it does make land it wouldn't happen until today or tomorrow. and weather conditions are not helping firefighters battle one of the most destructive wildfires ever seen in australia's most heavily populated state. more than a dozen fires are burning out of control in the blue mountains west of sydney. we have more from ka tomb ba. >> reporter: an unparalleled emergency. that's how authorities are describing the crisis in wales. it's sparking fears that two major fires could join forces to create a mega fire. >> we're not miracle makers but

accident in san francisco this morning. a train struck and killed two workers on saturday, and as carter evans reports, it happened during a contentious labor dispute. >> reporter: radio captured this. >> we just struck some individuals. central, be advised, it may be b.a.r.t. employees. >> reporter: a maintenance employee and a contractor may have been reporting a dip in the track when a train being brought in for routine cleaning hit them. >> i have two bodies, repeat, two bodies, one is on the side of the track way, the other is further down about 50 yards. >> both are deceased. >> reporter: both workers had extensive experience says b.a.r.t. assistant general manager paul overseer. >> their specialty is track work. that means they understand the railroad and understand how to

work around moving trains. they were doing today what they have done for 100 if not a thousand other time trains. in their career. >> reporter: the train was being operated by a computer but b.a.r.t. officials are not saying who was behind the control. the accident happened just a day after the system was shut down due to a strike. managers were prepared to operate some trains. the union had warned of dangers, though, if that happened. negotiations to resolve the dispute are stalled. on sunday picketing was suspended out of respect for the victims says spokeswoman antoinette bryant. >> we're not here to talk about work. two men are dead and this is an extremely tragic situation. >> reporter: the ntsb will investigate the accident. as for the strike, it affects 400,000 riders in the san francisco bay area. they're now facing a chaotic commute. carter evans, cbs news, los angeles. well, straight ahead, new revelations about dick cheney's heart problems during his term as vice president. and what would you pay to own some of oprah winfrey's

gigi stone is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, gigi. >> good morning, anne-marie. jpmorgan chase has reach add $13 billion deal with the federal government. they still face criminal investigation into bad mortgage loans the bank sold to investors. mortgage-backed securities were the key cause of the financial crisis. the deal would be the largest ever between the government and a single company. >> asian markets got a growth. tokyo's nikkei added 1% giving it a three-week high and hong kong's hang seng gained half a percent. news of stronger corporate profits. the dow gained more than 162 points for the week. the nasdaq was 122 points high . in washington a bipartisan group of house and senate negotiators is working to avert another government shutdown.

standard & poor's estimates the 16-day part shall shutdown cost the country an estimate 24d billion. leaders say another shutdown is not an option. >> the american people are working hard to come back from the world's worst recession. this can never happen again. >> a number of us were saying back in july this strategy could not and would not work, and of course, it didn't. there will not be another government shutdown, you can count on that. >> the government is funded through january 15th. the nation's largest telephone company at&t is leasing or selling the rights to 9,700 wireless towers. the deal with the company called crown castle is worth nearly $5 billion. at&t says it won't have any impact on its customers. at&t will sublease room on the towers for at least ten years.

where he started for 14 seasons. the denver broncos' quarterback jogged onto the field in indianapolis for the first time as a visiting player. he gave a wave to the fans after a standing ovation butafter that it was all business for the colts. manning's replacement andrew luck throws three touchdown passes and runs for another as indianapolis hands denver a 39-33 loss. after the game manning said he appreciated the homecoming but is glad it's over. >> if there is a next time, maybe it will be a little bit easier just because it was somewhat of an emotional week. it can be a little bit draining, i will say that. >> for his part manning threw for three touchdowns of his own. it's denver's first loss of the season. and that leaves the kansas city chiefs as the nfl's last unbeaten team. the chiefs beat houston to um prove their record to 7-0.

at the box office "gravity" is flying high. the space adventure starring sandra bullock and george clooney topped the box office for the third straight week bringing in $31 million. tom hanks dom you drama movie "captain phillips" topped second, and "carrie" made $14 million in its debut. a library with pop culture that a few would think preserving. pulp fiction magazines are getting a new life. as chip reid reports they've inspired countless writers. >> i have a piece of the pulp paper, and it just -- you can see what happens to it if you bend it at all. it really just disintegrates. >> reporter: jean manages

restoration experts at the library of congress. they're trying to preserve the works before they disappear. >> it is a race against time, and every time something gets used that's in this fragile of a condition, it can be further damaged. >> reporter: pulp paper was never meant to be saved. the titles convinced people. >> covers were the bait. >> reporter: this pulp fiction writer said the books lit a fire under him. >> pulp novels were about people who stumble, who go to work every day. they don't usually win big in the end, but they have these moments of glorious redemption. >> reporter: pulp fiction created opportunities for some of america's most famous writers. he says the writings sprang from the minds of men and women
